Next to Moss Beach, just south of San Francisco, Point Montara Light
guides the
approach to the Golden Gate Bridge. The original light was erected
in 1900, and was
replaced by the current 30 foot tower in 1928. The light is still
active as an aid to
navigation and is visible 14 miles at sea. Youth hostels now utilize
the
grounds and keeper's buildings.
