Derelict - Newport Beach Back Bay in the '50s.

This is where we hung out before development overtook the true character of this magical world. In the backwaters behind Shark Island, aptly named with leopard sharks and stingrays abounding and herons and egrets and crabs and halibut and needlefish. We would row our old punt into these primordial waters looking for whatever we could find snorkeling. Often we came across old derelicts; the bones of once sturdy boats, still beautiful in their calm repose. The sun and salt were like a healing potient for anything that ailed you. The long summer days seemed to go on forever.
